Subject-Focussed Blogs

Continuing on the theme of reflective practice.  Here at the Tavi, following reflection on our existing information delivery practices, we have come to the conclusion we need more exiciting, snappy ways to deliver subject informationn to our users.  As a direct result of CPD23 we are exploring the development of subject-focussed blogs and are testing blogger funcionality for this purpose.  For more details check out our new Tapsnaps service, comments/ideas welcome.

Reflective Practice

The Tavi library has recently begun a programme of scheduled reflective practice.  We keep informal personal records of our tasks, goals and log reasons why we have been unable to achieve our goals.  This is very useful in identifying where the time goes and enables us to think about how to adjust our working practices accordingly.  Every month we pair up with another staff member to share experiences and exchange ideas for improving efficiency and effectiveness.

As the CPD23 blog explains the main obstacle to reflective practice is time.  It does take time and self-discipline to log what we are doing, how long it takes, any interruptions/technical problems/meetings/training courses etc. that may slow down our work schedules.  However this process of logging is very helpful in highlighting areas where changes need to be made.  We feel it is well worth doing because although it does take a bit of time to set up and use, from the evidence we have so far, this will be  outweighed by the fact it will save time in the long run as well as improve overall service delivery.

Personally I found the exercise very reassuring and still found time to locate and upload my lovely new profile picture of a mechanical dog from Southwold Pier!

Branded

My personal brand is contrast - dark v light, bitter v sweet. As the librarian responsible for copyright compliance here at the Tavi I am known for being unyielding however as the Tavi's dancing librarian my flexibility is legendary.

CPD23 - why me?

One of the reasons I've joined the course is to promote copyright awareness.  I'm optimistic that 23 Things will help me develop a fresh approach to delivering this information that will engage staff and library users.
